Jane's Fleet Command page 2 of 2
PC

So you may be wandering where the strategy is in what sounds like a straight fight. Well, modern warfare is full of subtle strategy and counter strategy. Your ship's sensors only have a certain range and without due care an aircraft or submarine may sneak within your perimeter and wreak havoc before you can react to the situation. Of course, that unidentified plane may also be a 747, full of happy passengers off on their holidays, who probably wouldn't appreciate an air-to-air missile to contend with.

Patience is a virtue you'd be well advised to adopt for Jane's Fleet Command. Sometimes it seems to take an age before the weary pilots can be coaxed from their beds and convinced to fly the things. Fortunately there's an option to speed things up while your boys are getting their flying jackets on. Apart from this there's a variety of missions, ranging from campaigns to unrelated single missions, with a myriad of different vehicles to command and destroy.

The graphics on the 2D map are fairly basic, although there's a nifty 3D window that enables you to look at units, assess damage and watch them sink beneath the waves. All very nice on a 3D card. The enemy units are fairly clever and co-ordinate attacks or retreat if under pressure so the whole experience is quite involving. Definitely worth a look if you're a fan of the genre.
