Planescape Torment page 2 of 2
PC
Your quest in this adventure takes place in the AD&D world of Planescape, centring around the city of Sigil, a place from which you can navigate portals to access the rest of the world map. The scenery in each location is extremely detailed and your characters look absolutely superb in their surroundings, with smooth, perfectly drawn animations mapping their every movement.
The game itself looks better than Baldur's Gate in many respects, mainly due to the camera perspective. In Baldur's Gate the camera was distant from your characters, whereas in Planescape Torment the camera is very close to your party, promoting some great visuals.
However, like Baldur's Gate, Planescape Torment isn't perfect. The annoying fog covering each level and the reams of text may prove daunting to some, but by far the most annoying element to the game is the camera. Because of its close proximity, spells and ranged weapons can be very damaging to your party, as well as your opponent. Your character may cast a powerful spell on a distant enemy, but by the time it's cast, the enemy will have had enough time to get close enough to mean that the spell effects you too. This is particularly frustrating when you're fighting a large number of enemies who rush you.
Despite these problems, Planescape Torment has a storyline to rival Tolkien himself. Well written, well executed and brilliantly conceived, you'll forget about any niggles you have with the game on the basis of the plot itself. Simply put, if you like RPGs and you've got a PC, this is a game you must buy.

A captivating RPG that further strengthens the presence of AD&D games on PC. You won't find a better RPG than this for quite some time.
