Sega Rally 2 page 2 of 2
PC

And it really does look nice, does it?
It has an impressive graphical resolution (800x600 instead of 640x480) and everything looks superb. The cars have been lovingly rendered and there's plenty of eye-catching detail, like road dust and tail lamp lighting. There's also some gorgeous scenic eye-candy. On the desert track, birds, antelopes and even ostriches flee before you. The crowds are modelled right down to little individual people who get in the middle of the road to get a good look at the approaching car, before getting out of the way at the last minute, just like they do on the telly.

Have you managed to hit any of them?
Not as yet...

And the sound?
Again, very impressive indeed. Every sound is simulated well, from engine strain to the differing tones of the various road surfaces. If you want to moan you might say that the deep-throated howl of real-life rally cars hasn't been quite captured yet, but when you get your headphones on you really do feel like you're behind the wheel. The pace notes add to the fun too.

Anything else we should know about?
The multiple play modes include classic arcade and the 10-year championship, and you can post your best times online at the world Sega Rally League table.

You've been posting some good times, of course?
Errr...

Do say:
I've heard Sega Rally 2 is a nice drive.

Don't say:
I thought Mitsubishi made washing machines.

  • Nice graphics
  • Good handling
  • All the features of the classic arcade game
  • Top cars
  • It's yet another racer
