Xena Warrior Princess: The Talisman of Fate
N64 Release: December From: Titus

She's got skimpy leathers, a frisbee and an attitude to go with it, and if you've got an N64 you'll soon be able to appreciate Xena in all her fullness - even if you can't get Channel 5...
Gideon Kibblewhite

So Xena, not content with taking over Channel 5 and PlayStation, is now heading for N64.
Indeed she is - along with her bunch of unlikely cronies, a steely look in her eyes and a bust the size of -

No, please! Don't go down that road. Stick to the fighting.
All right then. We do need a combat game for the Nintendo at the moment, too - there's precious little doing in that direction at the moment. And at first sight Xena appears to have plenty to offer up front. You can play Xena or any of 10 other characters from the TV series, fighting your way across 10 interactive 3D worlds with loads of sub-levels (we believe there may be up to 21 in the final version). These range from Ulysses' mythical Greece to the lands of Goliath. Players can expect to get involved in martial arts hand-to-hand combat, as well as weapons handling and magic attacks.

So what's it actually like - bloodless but well choreographed, like the programme?
Not exactly. There are certainly plenty of moves and weapons (including staffs and, of course, those frisbee things) to be accessed, and some of the characters' speciality attacks and taunts are taken directly from the programme too, which is nice. There's plenty of jumping, aerial action, too. It may be turn out to be a bit repetitive after a while, though - enemies turn up and you chop 'em up. That's not always a bad thing though, and the end of level bosses are pretty useful - you have to keep a careful eye on the Cyclops in particular. Stay tuned for a more probing depth gauge.
