| N64 |
What else has Xena got up her bodice?
There are three different modes: Quest, Versus and Roster. The Quest mode allows a player to compete in a tournament for the Talisman of Fate, where the player battles each opponent in turn, up to a final one - Despair. This mode can also be played with two players working co-operatively. The Versus mode allows up to four players to compete against each other, and computer characters can be thrown in to vary the gameplay and difficulty. The Roster mode, similar to the Versus mode, allows players to get a team together so that when one character bites the dust, another can take their place.
It all sounds like a bit of a laugh. What's the prognosis?
We haven't seen the finished version yet, but yes, it does look like being a bit of a laugh. The 3D environments look reasonably impressive and it seems to be faithful to the characters of the series while looking like a fast and furious little fighter in its own right. And considering the fact that there's little in the way of fodder for fight fans on the N64, this hopefully adds up to excellent news. Keep watching this space for a more rigorous examination, though - Xena isn't exactly Tekken.
Do say:
It's as bonkers as the TV series.
Don't say:
It's also as wooden as the TV series.
One of the few fighters up and coming for the N64
Faithful to the TV series
Loads of moves
A war chest of weapons
The jury's out on its shelf-life
