In addition to the full Mans, there are also championship and arcade modes to be played. The championship mode sees you competing in a series of predetermined races, in one of the three classes - you begin with GT2s and work your way upwards. It's a good idea to start the game here as you'll be able to unlock many new cars. The arcade mode seems somewhat superficial compared to the others, and this isn't where the game's strength lies, although you are able to compete for a number of cups which are otherwise unavailable.
Graphically, it's more Marilyn Manson than Melinda Messenger, which will undoubtedly put many people off, but then looks aren't all that make a racing game good. Despite their unappetising aesthetics, the cars handle well, and changes can be made to the steering sensitivity to suit your needs.
The multiplayer mode also lets the side down somewhat, with only the in-car view available, which is rather annoying if you're used to driving out of the car. You can compete in all three modes - Le Mans, Championship and Arcade - but despite this, Le Mans 24 Hours doesn't feel like a particularly sociable game, so if you're looking for something to play after the pub with your mates, choose something else.

| Le Mans - like a good Havana - is an acquired taste, and with Gran Turismo 2 looming ever nearer (honest), many will choose to wait for that instead. Which would be a shame. |
