Mmm... What about these enemy tanks? What are we dealing with here?
Well, they're not your standard Chieftains. They're meant to have animal-like characteristics: some are low, heavy and bull-like, while others are meant to be bird-like - quick and light, they inhabit the higher terrain. Their AI's are limited to the same radar and controls that you have, making them pretty equal opponents. You also have the option of five different tanks to control, each of which has different capabilities.

And weapons?
Thought you'd never ask. Apart from your standard shell there are mines, homing missiles, guided missiles, barrel mines, cluster bombs and all sorts to collect. There are even teleport devices, but your enemies possess all this hardware too, of course...

I'm beginning to get a little excited by all this. Indeed, my turret is beginning stir as we speak...
Lordy. Then we shall continue apace. Although the large playing environments are necessarily bleak in look, the texturing and lighting effects are very nicely done and the models move smoothly. The physics engine of the beast is also most pleasing: different surfaces make your vehicle slip and slide in different ways, and the slopes of hills and gullies positively tug at you.

Got a multiplayer mode, has it?
Oh yes, and it's most enjoyable; a veritable dual in the sands for two. It's the engrossing single-player game that grabs you, though.

So are Future Gamer going wild about Wild Metal?
First impressions seem to indicate that Wild Metal seems to have finally found a good home on the Dreamcast. Check out our forthcoming full review for all the highs and lows of this hilly tank-shooter.

Do say...
This title just isn't PC.

Don't say...
Oh yes, I know that game. Right bitch to drive.

  • Fits the DC's fat controller like a glove
  • Engrossing, sim-like gameplay
  • Stark but effective graphics
  • Two-player possibilities
  • Nothing quite like it currently available on the DC
