Above all, stealth is your greatest ally. Running around like a crazed fool while unleashing a constant barrage of heavy machine gun fire might work a treat in Quake 3, but attempt the same thing in Delta Force 2 and you'll simply be picked off by some unseen sniper. Terrain effects such as knee-high grass provide superb cover. Couple this with the extra camouflage provided by the Ghillie suit (a hat and netting with twigs on, in layman's terms) and you can remain hidden from all but the closest of foes.
The graphics engine still relies on voxels to produce the vast game world. Although this has been criticised for looking a bit rough around the edges, it does allow for some stunning landscapes, with hillside upon hillside all covered with individual blades of grass. The only downside of this is that you'll need a PC with a pretty beefy processor in it to get everything running smoothly.
These improvements all add to the already successful format of the first game, but there's nothing really groundbreaking here. Sure, there are a couple of new weapons and more emphasis on using terrain and weather to your advantage, but apart from this you'd have thought it's the same game. That's not to say Delta Force 2 is bad, though. The single-player missions are balanced and varied, the graphics are prettier than before and the multiplayer experience is still special, but it's a little disappointing that more wasn't added to the sequel. The command screen, for example, seems to have been an afterthought or some forgotten feature because it doesn't allow much in the way of commands and it functions simply as a map. Minor grumbles aside, this is still a first class game which fans of the original will welcome with open arms.

| Not as much innovation as we'd have liked but the long-range sniping and cat and mouse multiplayer action are still the most satisfying in the genre. |
