Tricky.
Especially if they come after you with guns blazing. There's plenty of combat to be indulged in, you see. And, as in Elite, the game's got an open structure so you can do what you like, when you like.
Elite had masses of galaxies and a political state for each planet. Same deal here then?
Not exactly, but the interaction between the alien races kind of makes up for that. They're not entirely enamoured with each other and are often having fights. And as for the masses of galaxies, there's plenty of space to get lost in here.
And plenty of other people to fight?
You betcha. There are some 10,000 other ships in over 100 different space ship classes for you to get laser-happy with.
I used to love buying new stuff and upgrading my ships in Elite. Can I do that here?
For sure. As well as setting up your own trading posts and stuff you can buy all manner of fancy bits of kit to add to your ship. And as in Elite, that docking computer is going to be the first thing you'll want to get your hands on.
First impressions?
The physics and inertia are spot on. Your ship handles wonderfully, though it does take a little time to get used to the controls. More practice is needed before we can give a definitive answer as to whether the game's going to live up to our high expectations.
That's a thinly veiled excuse to play the game some more isn't it?
We love our work. We need to thoroughly research our subject matter (cough).
Right On Commander!
If only, if only...
