Another essential point of call is the Absolute Gamer site, a thoroughly comprehensive collection of maps, modifications and gadgets for a wide variety of games.

Unreal advocates, so cruelly forgotten after Half-Life's debut, should check out the Battle Rabbit. This little monster is a furry ball of fluff and, funnily enough, death. It's a doddle to install. Continuing with the 'rabbits as aggressors' theme, why not grab a Bunny Bazooka while you're browsing? True to its name, it fires the appropriate big-eared creatures in two damage-dealing flavours. The existence of a Myxomatosis Shield has yet to be confirmed, but it's got to be in the pipeline, right? If you prefer your ordinance serious and deadly, you could do far worse than download the Flamethrower. It's an impressive weapon - you can even set assailants on fire with it.

Fancy a Starcraft map? You could do far worse than grab The Liberation of Aiur. A resource-heavy environment that pits a single player against three AI opponents, it's an interesting scenario to play. There are plenty of other levels for Blizzard's strategy opus available too.

Funnily enough, the Absolute Gamer site doesn't have any Total Annihilation mods, extra units or maps. This isn't necessarily a problem. Cavedog's superlative RTS game is one of the most popular games on the Web. Typing 'add ons for total annihilation' into a search engine is akin to standing in the middle of a forest and musing, "Hmmm. Now where can I find some trees?"
