Tiberian Sun page 2 of 2

Multiplayer gamers are also catered for in a player vs. the computer skirmish or the excellent online facilities of Westwood's built in chat room and game finder.

A number of similar games have opted to go for graphically accelerated polygons for their battlefields, not so with Tiberian Sun. Westwood have, perhaps wisely, decided to use a voxel engine to drive the game. The advantages are numerous, including the fact that you don't need a 3d card or a super computer to run the game. Tiberian Sun also seems to run smoothly regardless of what is happening, be it a man walking across the screen or a pitched battle involving thirty combatants.

The single player game is superbly varied, the multiplayer aspect is simple to get into and user-friendly. The online code has been optimised and rarely shows the strain of being played over the net. The graphics and lighting effects are excellent and yet it seems that despite the tremendous wait that only a little has improved.

There is not a huge gulf between Tiberian Sun and C&C in terms of gameplay. Although this could be said about almost any RTS, the fact that the game was delayed by such a long period seems only to drive salt into the wound. Don't get me wrong, Tiberian Sun is the best game in the genre, and it's a must have. Worth the many years of waiting? Well that's another matter...

FG verdict
The best just got better, but not by much. Still as much fun as the original, with more units, better graphics and improved controls and interface. Only downside is the fact we've waited so long for only a little difference. 90%
