You're saying Evolution is slow?
No. What the developers have done is added a 'game speed' option in which you can up the ante when you feel the need. You can tweak the pace to the nth degree but we whacked it up to maximum and it's excellent. The players' close control moves still look studied and incredibly realistic, but now the action flows thick and fast, and they still retain the adhesive touch on the ball.

Isn't it easy to score in ISS games?
Usually. The best way to register is to scamper through defenders and slip it past the keeper in a one-on-one scenario. Or failing that, whipping in a cross and nodding the ball home from close range often proves fruitful. Having said that, many games are only settled by the odd goal, which is rare these days. You could never imagine this happening in a FIFA game, where it's criminally easy to billow the onion bag.

Real teams, real players?
Get outta here. This is ISS. National sides are featured and the player names have been changed slightly so you get Shealer instead of Shearer. You know the sort of thing. At least the strips are correct and, best of all, you can pick out the famous players by their looks - people like Bergkamp are easily recognisable. Also, the players retain some of the characteristics of their real-life counterparts. This is most noticeable with people like Michael Owen and Ronaldo (not the names used here, naturally!) who are ridiculously quick compared to the rest.

Anything else?
Yup. You can play two against two using a Multi-Tap, which is a magnificent addition. ISS Evolution looks set to be a 'must-have' footie game. Can't wait...

  • Brilliant visuals, as ever
  • Simply the best animation
  • You can speed-up the action
