Mini-Review
|
| Destrega |
| PlayStation |
From: SCEE |
The premise of free-roaming beat 'em up Destrega is pleasant enough: instead of just chucking two fighters into a ring, introduce a narrative element to the proceedings (so you can identify with the polygonal pugilists) and give the bashers a few tasty projectile weapons. Unfortunately, once you load up characters with a bag of weapons at their disposal, only the foolhardy would indulge in a bit of 'toe-to-toe', as the local footy hoolie would have it. Instead, you tend to dash about the place firing off, well, fire balls and the like from a distance, which are powerful enough to destroy your opponent. The camera pans in and out according to how far the two fighters are from each other. Destrega looks pretty enough, but with Tekken 3 and his pals on the shelves, your pugilistic instincts won't be sated here.

| Gungage |
| PlayStation |
From: Konami |
Well, Gungage has to be finest-named game ever, hasn't it? It isn't the finest game in the world, but heck, you can't have everything. Essentially, it's eight levels of good old-fashioned third-person-viewed shoot 'em up action. Big creepy crawlies have invaded the world and you're called upon to eradicate their presence via the medium of a large gun. Heck, it isn't the most sophisticated fare (from a company that gave us Castlevania, ISS and Metal Gear Solid, no less), nor original in any way, shape or form. Visually, Gungage looks like a first generation PlayStation game - not a good thing, Mr Konami. Best avoided, to be honest. Still, maybe they could resurrect the name with decent Tiswas-esque Saturday morning romp. Left shoulder button to drop bucket of green gunk on unsuspecting fool's head. Hmm... darn, that's Gungeage.
