Knockout Kings 2000
PlayStation Release: November 12 From: Electronic Arts

The UK has produced plenty of great boxers over the years, from the heavyweight might of Cooper, Bruno and Lewis, right down to those feisty little Irish fellas like Barry McGuigan. But how would Bazza have fared against big-mouthed yank Muhammad Ali?
Andy Ashwin

He would have been killed!
Probably. But wouldn't it be nice to find out once and for all? Well now you can, thanks to EA's latest take on the sport of kings.

Let's cut to the chase... is it actually any different to last year's offering?
While it may be essentially the same as the original Knockout Kings, KK2000 shows drastic improvements in just about every department. There are more real boxers to choose from, extra play modes, vastly improved graphics and it offers an all round better fight (as it should, with new contenders like Codemasters' Prince Naseem and Midway's Ready 2 Rumble about to enter the ring).

What play modes are available this time around?
Exhibition, Slugfest, Career and Classic Fights. Exhibition is, as you would expect, a chance to try out the various fighters with nothing at stake (except pride). You can only fight against boxers in your own weight-group though, as in real-life. Slugfest is like 'fantasy boxing', giving you the opportunity to pit the big blokes against the cheeky little chappies for a laugh. Or you could see how Frank Bruno would have fared against Rocky Marciano, Joe Louis or Sonny Liston. It's all good clean fun and has a more arcade feel, similar to Ready 2 Rumble. Actually, it's not clean at all - there's no referee in Slugfest, so anything goes, including head-butts and low punches!
