Big burly blokes in tights with dodgy mullets? It must be the latest WWF title, but is it good enough to grapple the money from your wallet?
Les Ellis
The antics of The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin and their wrestling buddies have become the biggest audience draws on American television over the last 12 months, and the videogame versions are now outselling mainstream beat 'em ups like Street Fighter and Tekken as soon as they hit the shelves. THQ, who have taken over the WWF licence from Acclaim, have been responsible for the bulk of PlayStation and N64 games, but until now, none of them has managed to conquer WWF Warzone and Attitude.
Their latest slugfest, however, is looking to turn things their way. All the glitz and glamour of the WWF is here. All the characters have their intros (although a few are out of date thanks to the ever changing world of the WWF), but it's when they get in the ring that the real magic in WWF Wrestlemania comes through. Unlike Acclaim's efforts, which relied on complicated direction and button combinations that would have put even the most hardened of Tekken fighters off, every move is available through four button presses at most. This makes the fights seem more realistic, even for a beginner, as you can pull off all your favourite trademark moves for whichever character you choose, even performing their special finishes.
