And what do points make?
New cars! You've only got the one car for each category to start with, but by completing the set tasks you gain points that you can then buy better cars with. For some of the later levels you're going to need the most souped up bug you can lay your hands on.

So there's some longevity then?
We reckon so. Not a massive amount, but it adds a lot to the single-player experience, and there's always the multiplayer options to explore as well.

Which are?
Well, you can play split-screen against a chum, or get yourself on a LAN and eight of you can tear around at once. It's fun.

A contender?
Arcade race fans should have a blast, but serious racers will turn their noses up. The physics seem a little odd to us at the moment, as does what we suspect is a weird kind of perspective correcting, whereby your car's drawn at different angles as you go round tight corners and stuff. Hopefully some final tweaking will sort this out.

What else?
The first thing you'll notice is the rather groovy, jangly guitar soundtrack. It's just not like anything you've heard in a game like this before and we reckon it's fab!

Do say...
Cowabunga!

Don't say...
Beetle-owning surfer types don't like videogames, do they?

  • Quirky, enjoyable soundtrack
  • Plenty of different racing types to enjoy
  • Everyone loves Beetles, don't they?
  • Enough modes to keep the solo player happy
  • Multiplayer should be a right laff
