Konami's Silent Hill served as a refreshing sorbet after two meat-filled courses of Resident Evil. Now Capcom return with the steak tartare of survival horror. Still hungry?
Andy Ashwin
Silent Hill was fantastic. I thought it was nice that it relied on storyline, rather than just blood and guts.
We agree with you completely - Silent Hill had a beautifully paced storyline that put you in the middle of a nightmare. Truly chilling stuff. Resident Evil is a completely different kettle of gizzards. It's scary in a more gratuitously violent kind of way.
Is the lovely Jill Valentine still in it?
Indeed she is, but remember that it's wrong to fancy a collection of polygons! You'll control Jill for the most part, although other characters will become playable later in the game.
So what's new?
This time around, the action is set on the streets of Raccoon City. It's teeming with the undead so the action is relentless. All your favourite weapons make a welcome return, along with a novel ammunition system.
Yes?
In your inventory you'll find a reloading tool, which appears to be a kind of bullet-making machine. Various gunpowder types can be found scattered willy-nilly that can be turned into ammo. Using 'gunpowder A' with the reloading tool will give you a certain amount of regular handgun ammo, while 'gunpowder B' will give you shotgun cartridges. However, mixing two gunpowder types will create exciting new ammo types, like acid and fire rounds. Brilliant, eh?
