Power Stone page 2 of 2
Dreamcast

What's the story on that?
Consider the range such a weapon gives a fighter. It makes them a trifle hard to reach, yes? So, in order to give the player without a large impromptu cudgel a chance, there’s a fountain as a centrepiece to the stage. Use that in a strategic manner, and it’s possible to evade your opponent until a decent attacking opportunity presents itself.

Wow. Shame I haven’t got a Dreamcast.
All is not lost. Power Stone is actually an arcade game, based on Sega’s Naomi board. That’s why it’s appearing so quickly on the Dreamcast. Write something for the Naomi hardware, and it’s a piece of p…ugilism to port it across to the home machine. A visit to a modern arcade, then, should give you the chance to see Power Stone pretty much as it will appear on Dreamcast…

Why is it called Power Stone, then? Something to do with a convoluted, twee plot I’ll wager...
You’re not far wrong. But it does have a bearing on play. Capcom have been experimenting for a while with the concept of offering power-ups in fighting games. Remember X-Men Vs Street Fighter? And Pocket Fighter? Power Stone, too, flirts with this simple principle. Each stage has its own local ‘power stone’. Collect it, and you reap the benefit of its individual attributes. You can ‘steal’ stones from other fighters, too.

Sounds like the most progressive, innovative fighting game in ages!
It is. Why not say a quick prayer to the effect of: “Boy, I hope Sega get Dreamcast out over here for September”…?

*It looks fantastic
*As near to arcade perfection as you could hope for on a home console
*Fully 3D - tire of punching your opponent, and you can go for a wander
*Capcom's wide experience in creating beat 'em ups is wonderfully evident
*There to be enjoyed in your local arcade
