Rebellion develop PlayStation version of Rainbow Six
Red Storm Entertainment, the developers of all things Tom Clancy-shaped (well, he is the CEO) have appointed Alien Vs Predator developers Rebellion to produce the PlayStation version of the popular PC title Rainbow Six, based on the Tom Clancy book of the same name.
Though it's normal to take the PC code and tweak it slightly so it fits into Sony's little box, Rebellion have been instructed to start from scratch to take full advantage of the PlayStation's strengths and weaknesses. Though it's early days, Future Gamer were privileged enough to try an early version of the code and the first impressions are good.
For those unfamiliar with the game, it's a first-person shooter based in the real world where the player controls a squad of crack anti-terrorist personnel - all very SAS. Unlike most first-person shooters though, the emphasis is very much on a real world model - you get shot once, you die. This makes the game far more tactical than most of this genre and should therefore appeal to those who like to think a little during their killing fests.
The game's due for a summer release and though there are still some control matters to sort (it's far too sensitive at present and therefore very tricky to aim your weapons with any accuracy) Rebellion are confident they'll have the game polished in time. Look out for a full preview in an upcoming Future Gamer.
