Dreamcast Sega Rally 2 feedback
Having had Sega Rally in the Future Gamer offices of late we thought it high time we passed on our thoughts on this Dreamcast title. Despite none of us being able to read Japanese (so we can't work out the best way to corner as demonstrated in the manual), suffice to say the game is splendid.
The graphics are tremendous, the level of detail is superb - down to the reflections in the car's glass and the car interiors - and it shifts too. No pop-up, no glitches, nothing. It's really lovely to simply watch someone else play.
Future Gamer's fave graphic trick is the fiery exhaust you see when you take your finger off accelerate and the automatic gearbox which goes down through the gears - lovely. And when you do get the joypad in your hand it's a treat to play.
The accelerate and brake on the shoulder buttons is not to everyone's taste however (there's probably an option to change the configuration but we haven't figured it out yet) but controlling the car gets easier with practise. And, like its first incarnation, it's practice that's going to pay off in SR2 as you attempt to shave off those extra tenths of a second. Expect a full review in an upcoming issue of FG.
