Realistic environments?
Touche. Reflections actually despatched members of the team to the US and they drove and filmed the streets and scenery of four cities. From the 100 cassettes they brought back, Reflections have been able to recreate Los Angeles, New York, Miami and, naturally, San Francisco. Each city took the team two days to film and there are 30 square miles of streets in each of them. It’s even claimed that if you know your way around any of the aforementioned cities, you’ll be able to negotiate the streets in Driver. We’re looking forward to bouncing cars over the hilly San Francisco streets.

I’m excited!
So are we.

What sort of things will I have to do?
Well, even though you’re an undercover cop, you’re up to your neck in the criminal underworld. In one mission, you have to pick up a passenger in a taxi, then drive like a maniac until he begs to be let out. Another sees you careering through restaurants whose owners have refused to pay protection money. You can even steal cop cars. There are some 44 missions in total, but you can get to the end of the game by completing just over half of them.

Any innovative touches?
Reflections have utilised the shoulder buttons so you can look left and right at junctions. Most of the time, you won’t be stopping at junctions, or taking any notice of the colour of traffic lights.

Driver is also due for release on the PC at around the same time as the PlayStation version.

*A whole new take on the driving game
*Los Angles, San Francisco, Miami, New York
*Great '70s cop film feel to the game
*Handling and car physics are spot on
*Let’s hope all the missions are well-designed, though
