Does Croc still sport that 'cute' rucksack?
Aww shucks, but of course. The actual character is exactly the same - as you'd expect. Unfortunately, you tend to remember how annoying he was first time around. His unwieldy controls, the whooshing camera dynamics. Croc doesn't actually do much apart from swish his tale and jump up and down to crush boxes. En route though, there are helpful items to tuck inside the backsack. Such as a pair of binoculars.
What about the levels?
The level design is the major difference between the new and the old. The designers at Argonaut have obviously played Crash Bandicoot 3, for it's from this that Croc 2 takes its cues. Our reptilian pal now gets to drive cars, ride on rails, swim, handglide and race speedboats. Oh, and collect crystals and rescue baby Gobbos from the evil Dantini, the game's arch villain. But varying the tasks doth not a great game make. Even in its unfinished guise, Croc 2 is unlikely to inspire anyone over the age of 13. Those under the age of 13 will probably just sulk and go to their rooms should you foist this upon them.
Isn't that a bit harsh?
Sorry. It's just that Croc 2 is a bit annoying. The polygon clipping is shocking at the moment - hopefully, they can sort most of it out before the game is released (you'd blimmin' hope so). Don't expect a classic, though.
*Pretty cartoon visuals
*Loads of mini-challenges and vehicles
*Not many character moves
*Shocking polygon clipping - at the moment
*'For kids'
