Triple Play Baseball 2000 page 2 of 2
PlayStation

All this is helped by some of the best camera angles we've seen on the PlayStation. Rather than watching the action from a static position, the camera swoops to the best angle as your player dives for base, kicking up clouds of dust as he goes. It sounds confusing, but once you start playing it's as natural as you like, and especially satisfying when the camera switches to a blimp above the ground as your home run attempts to go into orbit.

Ah yes, the home runs. All the ridiculously spoddy stats in the world cannot detract from the fact that this is a game about hitting a ball hard. And as far as you can. And Triple Play 2000, in rookie level at least, lets you do just that. It doesn't take long to get into the swing of things, and with the amazingly simple controls chucked into the mix, you really can be celebrating an 'RBI double' in your first inning. With similar, easy-to-pick-up controls for pitching, before long you're approaching multiplayer heaven.

Options are pretty much what you'd expect, with the choice of a full season if you've got nothing to do for the rest of your life, the playoffs or just a single game. It's EA at their best, with all the proper teams, stats, leagues... you know the score.

We would be doing you a great disservice, however, if we omitted details of the Home Run Challenge. Two players, a ball, a pitcher and a bloody great stadium are all the ingredients of an immensely fun contest to see who can hit the ball the furthest. Simple, but devastatingly effective.

Which kinda sums up Triple Play 2000 nicely. We may mock EA's endless stream of licensed sports games, but something's becoming all too clear. They're getting very good at 'em. Get this, and before long you'll know the New York Yankees are World Champions too...
