Dear Future Gamer,

Here's a radical thought to those who keep on this ridiculous bandwagon of 'my console is better than your console', or 'my PC is better than your Mac/Unix box/Amiga'. What's wrong with using a platform/console or OS because you like it?

I professionally use and develop software and hardware solutions for both Mac and PC, and like and dislike them both for many different reasons. I am privileged to own a PlayStation and Saturn, and also have as high a spec PC as I like.

So which computing platform do I use...? The Amiga. Why? Because I like it. End of argument. Forget detailed reasons, no discussions as to the pros and cons. I just like it. The iMac has a target audience. It's not designed to knock the PC off its top slot in every market. It's a Mac, it's meant to be a Mac.

Let's keep a wide choice of platforms. I would hate to see a day, when there is one platform and one OS, and no choice.

FG: Choice is a good thing, but what we need is more standardisation within each platform. This is something that's starting to happen on the PC, thankfully, because it makes computers and the world of computer games more accessible and less of a specialist hobby.
