Dear Future Gamer,
Being a great fan of Sega and the Dreamcast, I was surprised to hear the news (from an unreliable friend) that Sega didn't actually own the Dreamcast and that's why it didn't show the SEGA logo. At first I dismissed the whole idea, but I soon realised that the machine doesn't bear the logo and with various companies contributing various parts of the machine (Microsoft, Yamaha, Hitachi) I wondered to myself, "Do Sega really own the Dreamcast?" Can you shed any light on the subject?

Hmm, it's a new one on us but it's an interesting question. Our Dreamcast clearly has the Sega logo on the front of the machine, with the Dreamcast swirl on the top. The machine's packaging (which is frankly, odd and disturbing) shows some Japanese bloke looking surprised and the Dreamcast swirl. There's no prominent Sega branding but I suspect this is a marketing decision to disassociate the machine from the company's troubled previous consoles. Sega may well use other company's components (as do all console manufacturers) but they still 'own' the machine.
