BITS

Dear Future Gamer,

Did any of you watch that new games programme late on Thursday evening, called BITS? You know, the one that was meant to be Channel 4's worthy successor to GamesMaster? Ha!! Don't make me laugh! Although the now-defunct games show may have had its faults, it was certainly a fair distance ahead of this drivel!

”BITS” is not exactly a very good name for a show, but that's not too important. I mean GamesMaster isn't much better. It’s the way this new programme is presented that is the main problem. The main setting of it was in a run-down house of sorts, and they kept on flicking to different parts of a scruffy city, where they attempted to piece together respectable reviews. I forget which city they were in, but that's not the point. It really looked like they had been given a tenner and told to make something related to games - just to fill up half an hour of the Channel 4 schedule late at night when no-one actually watches TV.

I was amazed at the people that had been picked to do the show as well. Don't worry, I'm not sexist. I am not going to have a go at the fact that three girls (sorry) were hosting it. It was just that they didn't seem to know that much about games at all, and it was obvious to me that someone at the Channel 4 headquarters had picked up on the idea that "girls don't play games" and wanted to show everyone how untrue that is. This definitely isn't the way to prove it! They just looked stupid! No passion was put into their presenting... they were very wooden, showing no interest in gaming in any way! No offence to them, I'm sure they are very nice people, but I just didn't think they came across right... I dunno... maybe the show will improve as the series goes on. Hopefully anyway!! I quite like the blonde host, but I won't go into that..

FG: I think you’re being a little harsh Adam. I didn’t catch the show (heck, the pubs were still open!) so I can’t comment but I’m sure it’s a lot more planned and structured than you think. I’m sure the show’s presenters will get better too – being in front of camera is no easy task and that’s something I do know about, having been screentested for the very first series of GamesMaster (they saw right through me and quickly moved onto some Scottish upstart called Dominik something…)
