Breakneck
PC Release: June '99 From: THQ

This chap's either had an accident or is simply showing off

Though we bemoan the lack of innovation in games these days, we at FG still take our hats off to a game that enters a crowded genre and manages to get its gameplay head and shoulders up above its peers. THQ can buy us a pint anytime...
Andy Smith

Breakneck. Yawn. Another beat 'em up?
You're too quick for your own good. The breakneck here refers to speed. This one's an arcade racing game.

Yawn. Another racing game.
You jaded old cynic. The demo version of this German-coded racer has had us gripped. It's splendid.

Tell me all about it then.
We'll start with the breakneck speed then, shall we? It shifts. The game's going to feature a whole range of vehicles to drive and when you're in one of the faster automobiles you'll be flying - literally sometimes as you hit a hump-back bridge far too quickly.

But all racers are fast these days. They have loads of pop-up too.
Not here though. The pop-up's hardly noticeable and the rest of the graphics are sumptuous, from the great dust effects to the look of the trees. Breakneck's graphics are splendid. Trust us on this.

Okay, time for some specifics. How many tracks?
24.

Multiplayer?
Eight over the Internet or via a LAN.

Erm, force feedback?
Yup.
