Die Hard Arcade 2 page 2 of 2
Dreamcast

The idea of you walking through levels, beating the hell out of anyone who gets in your way, hasn't exactly been done to death on consoles (Final Fight, Streets of Rage and Fighting Force being the mainstays of the genre), and it's surprising that developers with all this extra power at their fingertips choose to spend their time on the graphics, rather than attempting to introduce new elements to the gameplay or expanding the storyline and length of the gameplay experience.

While Die Hard Arcade 2 is packed with eye-candy which will make it irresistible for anyone who just happens to catch a glimpse of someone else playing it, it doesn't offer the kind of challenge that equals value for money. With the likes of Soul Fighter on the horizon, which may lack the multiple characters but offers plenty of new angles on the genre and a cunning first person projectile weapon mode, Die Hard Arcade 2 will be relying a lot on its good name, rather than a well earned reputation.

It's a near perfect arcade conversion, but arcade games are designed for a quick eye-fest experience, rather than something you'll spend days, or maybe even weeks, playing to get to the end. This is just a five minute wonder which, for over sixty quid on import and forty when it gets an official UK release, seems a tad over the top.

It's worth a blast if a mate buys it, but not worth investing your own hard earned cash in. Find an arcade that has it and finish it there instead. It won't take long. This just shows the power of the Dreamcast, but not the power of great gameplay.

Fun if you want a five minute wonder, but suffers due to no longevity. 60%
