Release: September 99 |
From: Electronic Arts |

After the avalanche of distinctly average and downright poor PlayStation snowboarding games, EA prepare to enter the icy fray on sleds. Have you ever seen James Bond on a snowboard? Right then...
Steve Bradley
Sled Storm, eh? Natty name...
It's better than 'Motorised Sledge Racer'.
Isn't this 'racing-on-snow' getting a bit tired? Big Air, EA's last attempt, was bloody awful.
You're not wrong. There have been over 10 snowboard titles for the PlayStation and none of them has even been nearly as good as 1080 on the N64. And yes, the recent Big Air (from the purveyors of Sled Storm, no less) was an abomination - it certainly received a frosty reception in some quarters (heh, heh).
Is Sled Storm any better? It has to be, doesn't it?
It is. Firstly, and most importantly, you get to travel on snowmobiles. You know, the ones that seem to feature in one in three James Bond films? Snowmobiles are fast, exciting (in that they always look a bit unsteady on their feet) and you get to ride up drifts and perform big jumps.
Woo, and moreover, hoo!
No, seriously, this is good stuff. There's a definite knack in handling the sleds - they're not easiest of crates to control from the off - and after a few tries you can generally pick your way down the narrow mountain trails. The circuits include a number of different paths which you can scoot down. This feature comes into its own in multiplayer mode.
