Speed Devils page 2 of 2
Dreamcast

What are the cars like?
There are 10 to begin with and they look dead nice, especially the retro '50s hot-rods. You can customise them with new wheels, brakes, etc, as well as pack them out with nitrous oxide for the occasional speed boost.

How original. Tell me about the various modes of play.
The racing action comes in five different flavours: arcade, time attack, ghost mode...

...Championship and multiplayer, perchance?
Ha!

No?
Alright, yes. Speed Devils includes all the standard modes of play but what others are there? It's pretty tough to be innovative in an already stretched genre. Speed Devils' real strength lies in the original track designs - the emphasis is firmly on fun, and some of the obstacles, like the T-Rex on the Hollywood film set, really need to be seen to be believed.

I'm not entirely convinced... I'll wait for a review in Future Gamer.
So you should. The version we played wasn't finished, although we should get a copy of the final code soon.

Are we ever going to see any original Dreamcast software?
What are you on about? Haven't you heard of Soul Calibur or Shenmue? And what about the promising Toy Commander previewed only last week in Future Gamer? The great thing about the Dreamcast is that due to the ease with which PC games can be ported, we can expect a decent amount of software to be available from day one. To really enjoy Speed Busters you had to have a thousand quid's worth of PC with a fancy graphics card. The same (almost) can now be experienced on a console that will cost you only £200.

* Good old-fashioned arcade racing with the emphasis on fun
* Some lovely graphical effects, especially the tornado
* Interesting track design - you never know what's around the next corner
* Looks like an average racer with pretty graphics
* This won't make people rush out and buy a Dreamcast
