Mini-Review
Charlie Blast's Territory
N64 From: Kemco

Bit of a strange fish, this one. You are the Mr Blast of the title, an oafish, hardhat-bedecked workman who keeps finding himself stuck on bomb-laden islands. In order to escape you'll need to detonate the bombs in such a way that they all go boom, but you don't. Sounds easy? Pretty much, but all the great puzzle games are based on a simple concept. So is this the next Tetris, or maybe a Bomberman beater? No chance. It's rubbish. The graphics are poor, the action is tediously slow and the control system is fundamentally flawed. Some people are into that kind of thing though; you know the sort - the kind of person that likes to put toothpaste in their eyes while drinking bleach. If you really must play an old-skool puzzle game then go for Lode Runner 3D. It's also not very good but it should keep you occupied for more than 10 minutes.

Discworld Noir
PC From: GT Interactive

As the third in Terry Pratchett's PC adventure series, Discworld Noir is a bit of a departure. As the title suggests, this effort has a classic noir feel, like those 1930s detective flicks shown on Saturday afternoons, instead of the usual dragons and wizards. Could this be a shameless case of Grim Fandango-bandwagon jumping? Probably, although Discworld Noir does offer a decent point-and-click challenge in its own right. The plot and script are pretty strong points, as you'd expect from Mr Pratchett, but at times the gags are weak enough to suggest that the bearded one had nothing to do with it. Fans of Pratchett would certainly be better off buying Discworld or Discworld 2, while fans of great adventure games should own Grim Fandango (or any other LucasArts adventure). If, however, you've completed all the others, you could do a lot worse than this.
