How does it play?
Let's be candid here. Medal of Honour doesn't feature any startling innovations, but what it does really well is give the proceedings a cinematic feel. Creeping through a historic, occupied French town, with the Nazi flag flying from buildings, is actually a pretty creepy experience. The film-style score ebbs and sways at choice moments, leaving you feeling distinctly uneasy, yet excited. A lot of the action takes place at night, and the barking of guard dogs and the sound of German voices reverberate. Apparently there are 1,500 individual lines of dialogue. Chilling, it is. Chilling.
What about weapons?
Oh, you do get to use them. It'd be a nightmare without guns - you wouldn't get anywhere. There's a sniper rifle, sub-machine gun, bazooka, pistol and even an assassination crossbow. Oh, and you can chuck grenades around. Beware though, because the enemy will throw them back at you.
What else?
Some of the missions demand you disguise yourself and steal into enemy camps. You can flash a German badge from your inventory and gain access to secret files at enemy headquarters. It doesn't always work though, because sometimes they suss you out. And then you're sorry.
Sounds like this is one to watch...
Medal of Honour is certainly one of the most interesting first-person shoot 'em ups the PlayStation has seen. Could Sony finally have a GoldenEye 007 on their hands? Let's hope so.
A cinematic experience
Authentic visuals
Quite nerve-wracking
Missions galore
