Medal of Honour
PlayStation Release: December From: Electronic Arts

A cinematic, first-person shoot 'em set in an occupied French town during World War II? Why yes. A victory for the Allies, and common sense...
Steve Bradley

Achtung, baby!
Not 'arf. It's about time folk started producing more realistic shoot 'em ups. Where's the Spaghetti Westerns, the Gangster-style stuff? We're tired of these blessed monsters getting the better of us.

What about Medal of Honour, then?
First off, it's from DreamWorks, one of Steven Spielberg's many concerns. Incidentally, it was the very same Spielberg who directed World War II epic Saving Private Ryan. Anyway, Medal of Honour begins on the night of June 5, 1944, the night before the Allies launched the D-Day Landings. You take on the role of a young American pilot who's been shot down behind enemy lines. You're recruited as a field agent and you have to complete a selection of covert missions.

The missions are based on pivotal historical events which happened during the Second World War, events that helped shape the Allied crusade in Europe. One time you might be called upon to find a secret base, another time you could find yourself in Hitler's bunker.

Blimey! Adolf Hitler?
He started it, you know...

So I play an American, right?
Right. You wouldn't expect DreamWorks to cast you in the role of a British Tommy, would you? Didn't you know the Yanks single-handedly won the war? Or at least they think they did...

How many levels/missions are there?
There are 11 missions, split into 24 levels. The levels include a V2 rocket plant, a U-boat submarine base, a fortified Bavarian Castle-turned-POW camp and the aforementioned Hitler's bunker among many others.
