Defender of the Crown - adventure game (Cinemaware)
Well, we bought an Amiga after seeing it. Didn't you?
Microsoft Flight Sim - flight simulation (Microsoft)
You may notice that flight and combat sims are given little in the way of acknowledgement here. To ignore the impact of Microsoft's Flight Sim, however, would be criminal. Increasingly realistic with each successive update, this 'civilian' flight sim has a huge number of fans. It's the first game to offer you the world in any great degree of detail, remember...
Dragon's Lair - interactive cartoon (Sulivan Bluth)
'Gameplay' and 'game' are not always synonymous. Dragon's Lair's cartoon-style visuals were, frankly, outstanding. Its soundtrack, too, was incredible. But was it a game? Did the act of pressing a directional button to engender an 'on rails' result constitute real 'gameplay'? The jury's still out on that one.
Super Mario World - platform game (Nintendo)
Sheer genius. And if you've played a platform game post-1993, you'll know just why.
Kick Off - football sim (Dino Dini/Anco)
Without Kick Off, there would be no Sensible Soccer. Need we say more? Kick Off was a massive favourite on the Amiga. It seems harsh and overtly stylised by modern standards but, back then, it was as close to the real thing as you could hope for.
