It sure as damn it won't be here before Christmas, but the world's greatest racer is rounding the final corner. With more cars, more tracks, more license tests and even rallying, Gran Turismo 2 really is the mutt's nuts.

I heard that there would be umpteen cars.
There are far more than that. How does just shy of 600 sound?
You've got to be joking!
We shit you not! There are 594 cars to be precise, from 20 European, eight American and six Japanese manufacturers. In arcade mode you choose from three classes: sports, high performance and bog standard. The standard cars are great fun, giving you the chance to test-drive the sort of thing your parents pootle around in.
I really want to trash my mum's Ford Ka. It's dead embarrassing when she drops me off at the pub!
You can't actually trash the car - sadly no physical damage is visible - but if you ram it into the wall a couple of times you'll notice some rather unsubtle handling difficulties. It's quite tough going clockwise around an oval circuit when your car keeps veering to the left. Such damage is easily rectified by popping into the pits.
Nice touch. How many tracks are there altogether?
There are 28 in all, including dirt tracks, night drives, city circuits and the lovely 'high-speed ring'. We've tried out a fair few in the office and found them to be suitably varied and incredibly well designed.
