I've been a fan of the Final Fantasy games ever since their early NES encounters, and suffice it to say I thoroughly enjoyed the latest addition to the saga. And am eagerly awaiting the next. Which is why I write. Rumblings on the 'net have confirmed both a FF IX and a FF X, but I've heard little or nothing from Future Gamer. I've been told the next Final (pah!) Fantasy will be developed for the PlayStation, rather than it's successor, which doesn't make all that much sense, given that after the given year or so between FF games has elapsed, the PS2 will already be upon us. But I've also heard that FF X will be a PS2 launch title, which would see release in the UK around the same time as FF IX. You might have guessed that I'm now ever-so-slightly confused, and thus have come crawling back to your prestigious mag for as little confirmation and denial.

The problem with rumours, Niall, is that anyone can make 'em up. We haven't said anything about FFIX and FFX because we don't know anything. Squaresoft are being tight-lipped, and until they let us know something there's little point in merely reporting whatever today's rumour is. Suffice to say as soon as we learn anything more concrete than just Chinese whispers we'll pass it on.
