| NFL Blitz 2000 |
| Dreamcast |
From: Midway |
The majority of British sports fans have struggled to get to grips with the pace of American games. Take, for instance, American football - a three-hour spectacle of razzmatazz punctuated by the occasional five-second burst of action. Boring, eh? Maybe the National Football League should take notice of what Midway have done with the excellent NFL Blitz 2000. Gone are most of the rules that serve only to slow the action, as big hits and blatant cheating are actively encouraged. It's nigh on arcade perfect, with sumptuous visuals, insane plays, bone-crunching hits and a healthy sense of humour. Most importantly, it's really good fun to play. NFL Blitz 2000 will rarely occupy you for more than an hour at a time, but you'll undoubtedly come back to it again and again. A brilliant 10-minute adrenaline rush.

| NBA Showtime: NBA on NBC |
| Dreamcast |
From: Midway |
Fans of the brilliant NBA Jam on the Super Nintendo will no doubt rush out to buy this one. It's been created by the same team of nutters and is, in essence, the same game. Only not as good. The graphics are nice enough, especially in the replays, but it's not the quantum leap we expected from the 16 to 128bit transition. Also, the sparse commentary was forgiven on the SNES version due to storage limitations, but the same can't be said of Sega's whopping GD-ROM format. It is still fun though, particularly in four-player mode when you and your partner combine for a gravity defying 'alley-oop'. Best of all, you can create your own player and give him a horse's head - dead funny when you go up for a monster jam and the commentator bellows "Horse!" The real problem with NBA Showtime lies in the opposition AI - you can be leading by 20 points with a minute to go, when all of a sudden your opponents become invincible and your own shots seem to constantly miss. This is a real shame and, in effect, means that every game is decided in the last 10 seconds, whether you're any good at it or not.
