Tremendous. You've got your hands full then?
Oh yes. And while all this is going on there are often lots of objects which you have to disable in order to proceed - generators, force fields, gun emplacements, that sort of gear. It's a straight, railroaded game, mind, but things are busy enough without having to worry about puzzles.
What kind of bombs do you get to use? I take it we're not dealing out indoor fireworks here.
Indeed not. There are three basic types of bombs you can collect - Gravity, Electricity and Napalm. Gravity, the most full-on of the three, creates a huge wormhole which makes anything in its wake disappear; Electricity zaps enemies, causing damage; and last but not least, good old fashioned Napalm, which burns anything it touches.
That's quite a lot of hardware.
Quite. And the more 'e-chips' you collect, the more bombs you can carry. Alternatively, you can use these chips to buy a greater vector range, better armour or the ability to carry more bombs.
Does it look nice?
Sure, in an isometric, old fashioned sort of way. The levels are certainly nicely designed and some of your robotic enemies can look suitably evil, but it's the gameplay of this delightful little title that grabs you, not the graphics. It's certainly not the cringingly dreadful voiceover that takes you through the game's different missions.
The Future Gamer team like Silent Bomber then.
To be fair we haven't got very far into the game yet, but everyone in the office who's played it so far has really liked it. What with two-player action on offer as well, it's a refreshing take on the familiar platform theme, and we didn't think they made those any more. The PlayStation is dead! Long live the PlayStation!
Do say...
Blast! Just one more go then...
Don't say...
This one's gonna bomb.
Original and refreshing
Addictive gameplay
Nice bombs to carpet the opposition with
An imaginative array of robotic enemies
Uniquely appalling American 'cheese-over'
