This month the update of the classic Strider (discussed last month) was released. Strider 2 was bundled with the original - a great idea - providing a nostalgic trip down memory lane.

The N64 enjoyed (or maybe that should be endured) an abysmally spartan month, being propped up solely by the release of the admittedly excellent Ridge Racer 64. The aesthetic and sonic values of this racer are a feat in themselves, but when combined with such silky playability, Ridge Racer 64 really does become a must-buy for all Nintendo 64 owners. The amazing success of the Game Boy and Game Boy Color has branched out from being purely because of the Pokémon phenomenon. Sales of the latest Donkey Kong title on the Japanese Game Boy have been very high. Of course, Pokémon Yellow, Gold and Silver also continue to sell incredibly well, as if you needed telling.

Dreamcast
So far, one thing Dreamcast has seemed to lack is a game that can catch and hold a player's attention for periods up to that of, say, Gran Turismo. This could well be put down to Dreamcast's deep arcade roots, conversions of arcade titles proving to be the highlights of the software released. Hoping to change that, Sega developed a racer clearly inspired by Gran Turismo, one that would challenge Polyphony's seminal racer. Subsequently, Sega GT: Homologation Special came about. Not only is this similar to Gran Turismo in its visual style, but the dynamics, number of cars and tracks all present what is obviously an attempt at taking away Gran Turismo's crown. Many have received Sega GT well, pronouncing it an amazing title, perhaps even one that surpasses Gran Turismo. Others weren't so kind, though; the handling style is either loved or hated.
