Sex, Lies & Videogames page 2 of 2
Jeremy Wellard, producer of Brian Lara Cricket, Codemasters

FG: What's the most overrated game ever?
JW: At the risk of all sorts of disparaging comments... Quake. I really do not like that game. The technological advancements it managed were highly impressive but as a game I found it dull and distinctly lacking in any subtlety whatsoever. Even in multiplayer. But this is probably because I was such a Duke Nukem fan at the time! Also, any of the FIFA games (bar the first on the Mega Drive). I cannot believe how much it sells each time. Konami's ISS is a million times better.

FG: What's the most underrated game ever?
JW: Exile on the Amiga. It was an absolute classic but failed terribly.

FG: Have you ever lied to an arcade attendant to get a free credit?
JW: What, me, a producer, tell a fib?

FG: Who in the games industry do you most admire?
JW: Lyn Darby, star PA at Codemasters. Without her, Codemasters would grind to a halt

FG: What was the first videogame you ever played?
JW: Spiders from Mars on the VIC-20. I was blown away by it at the time, funny how things change.

FG: Have you ever cancelled a date to play a videogame?
JW: Never, I think... don't quote me on that one.

FG: What videogame websites do you have bookmarked?
JW: Games Domain, Game Online, GameSpot UK, Sports Gaming Network

FG: Did you ever own a Jaguar?
JW: Nope. There were some that sat in a corner at one of the previous companies I worked for, but they never made it out of their boxes.

FG: What game are you most looking forward to playing?
JW: Civilisation (multiplayer) or Team Fortress 2. I really hope the latter lives up to the expectations everyone has for it.

FG: What's the first game you look for in an arcade?
JW: Any footy game or that skateboarding simulator

FG: Do you ever play videogames in the nude?
JW: No, but I sometimes bath without clothes on.
