Jeremy Wellard, producer of Brian Lara Cricket, Codemasters

Jeremy's been with Codemasters for two years, working exclusively on Brian Lara Cricket for the PlayStation (out now) and PC (due for release on March 19). Before that, he worked at Audiogenic where he developed the original Brian Lara for the Mega Drive, published by Codemasters in ‘95 and a UK number one for 10 weeks. Jeremy's played cricket at county level and was a one-time trialist for the England team. So he knows the difference between his legs and his wickets.

FG: Played any good games lately?
JW: Half-Life is absolutely stunning in both single and multiplayer. It's head and shoulders above everything else at the moment. TOCA 2 on a PC network is possibly the best multiplayer experience possible at the moment. Zelda is pretty cool too.

FG: What do you think of Lara Croft?
JW Our Lara, of the Brian variety, is more important to me. As worrying as that might sound.

FG: What name or initials do you enter on high-score tables?
JW: The highly innovative JER. That'll be mine, then.

FG: What games systems do you have at home?
JW: PlayStation, N64 and PC.

FG: If you could keep just one, which would it be?
JW: I suppose the PC... I don't think I could be without the multiplayer entertainment it provides plus it has more potential right now. I'd like to rethink that when PlayStation 2 arrives.

FG: What's your favourite bit in Super Mario 64?
JW: The battle with Bowser on the pivoting platform, the camera work is truly visually stunning.

FG: Who'd win in a fight, Sonic or Mario?
JW: Mario would win by miles... I never did like Sonic that much.

FG: Were games better in the "good old days"?
JW: I never like being asked that as it's really not a valid question. You can't really compare Quake 2 and Pacman in any meaningful way. Games become huge because they are outstanding for that point in time but they very rapidly pale in comparison to newer games that move with the technology.

FG: Describe Dreamcast in five words.
JW: Disappointing - the Saturn scenario revisited.
