PC Snob

Dear Future Gamer,

Mark Robertson is a very ignorant gent indeed. Yes, music does help a game immensely, but Half-Life does have a soundtrack! Put the CD into your hi-fi if you don't believe me, and skip track 1 - which is the game itself - and listen away. The music in HL only plays at parts important to the storyline, like when you kill the first tentacle thing, or whenever the administrator appears.

Also, I'd now like to bitch about the mag. You gave an exceedingly limp reply to Jerry Cornelius, which, rather than intelligently defending your mag, picked him up on technicalities. He said "Why aren't the names of the staff on the front page mailtos?" and you replied "If you go to Front Page, I think that's what I've called it (checks... yup), you'll see a list of who does what each week". He didn't ask whether the names were there! He asked, politely, why you can't email the writers of FG? In your reply, you criticised him for calling 'Front Page' 'The Front Page'. You then proceeded to confirm his point: the names aren't mailtos! What kind of mag does that?

I can't believe the amount of people who praise your mag, then bitch about how crap PCs are. If it weren't for PCs, their precious FG wouldn't exist. I will rue the day bepuffa-jacketed console bods get access to the Net. Newsgroups and forums will become choked with questions such as "Why can't I download things?" and "Why does it hurt when I shove something up my nose?".

Here's the deal. PCs, currently, are faster than all consoles. People keep saying how the PS2 will change this. For about a week, I say. Due to the expandable nature of PCs, they will always outlast consoles. PCs have outlasted the 8bits, the 16bits, everyone said they wouldn't outlast the 32bits - they have, they've already surpassed the 64bits, and, we'll surpass and outlast the 128bits et al.

I also noticed FG's massive advertising drive in PC Format (a mag for real men). The FG coffers will soon be empty, as the cost of these ads and employing the (frankly useless) reporters will catch up on them. "Ads for Gex 3 and Heat UK do not a mag pay for", as Yoda didn't say.

As of around 6pm this evening, I'm unsubscribing to FG. Consolers can have their simply worded and 'lowest common denominator' mag.

Thomas Flynn

FG: You're right. He was asking why they couldn't be mailtos. My mistake. My name is there as a mailto because the rest of the staff don't want to be inundated with emails from the public - it's my job to filter them out. Sorry you're a PC snob who doesn't want to help anyone else out, and sorry you're unsubscribing. Ads for Gex 3 and Heat UK, do indeed pay for a magazine, and you might have noticed that our parent company own PC Format, PC Gamer, PC Plus, Edge and all the other publications that the Future Gamer ads have appeared in. This makes advertising in them slightly cheaper. And to finish off, presbyopia - a non simple word. Bye then.
