Dennis Fong (aka Thresh)
|
By day he may be mild-mannered Dennis Fong, but the moment he sits down behind a PC he becomes Thresh, the world Quake champion. Over the last couple of years he's won over $100,000 in prize money and a Ferrari (once owned by id head programmer John Carmack) playing Quake in tournaments all over the world.
Neil West
FG: Played any good games lately?
DF: Sure, plenty of them. I'll have to say Half-Life tops the list though.
FG: What do you think of Lara Croft?
DF: She's a definite babe. But just a game character, right?
FG: What name or initials do you enter on high-score tables?
DF: I haven't played many games recently that have had high-score tables, but I guess I'd normally enter "Thresh" or "DF."
FG: What games systems do you have at home?
DF: I generally don't play games at home since I have a fast connect at the office, but my primary game system is a P2/500, 128 Mb RAM, dual Diamond Voodoo2 SLI, Diamond Viper 550, 21 inch monitor, and so on. There's also a PlayStation and N64 here at the office.
FG: If you could keep just one, which would it be?
DF: That'd be the PC I listed above.
FG: What's your favourite bit in Super Mario 64?
DF: Haven't played much of it.
FG: Who'd win in a fight, Sonic or Mario?
DF: Oh, Sonic would win of course. He's got the snazzy spiky hair.
FG: Were games better in the "good old days"?
DF: Nah, games are only starting to reach their prime. Some games in the past were simple yet very addictive in nature, but none of them provided the same rush you get when playing a game of Quake.
FG: Describe Dreamcast in five words.
DF: Step in the right direction.
FG: What's the most overrated game ever?
DF: I'm not sure about overrated, but the most over-hyped game ever must be Space Bunnies Must Die. It's received horrid reviews (and deservedly so), but I still see the game in my nightmares.
