Sega release details of European launch

Sega have finally announced the details of the European launch of Dreamcast, the console they hope will provide them with a platform to take on the might of Sony and Nintendo. Dreamcast will arrive on the shelves on September 23 of this year, retailing at £199, and the pack includes one controller and a demo disc featuring a number of games. Certainly, the price is no surprise, but some observers thought that Sega might try and get Dreamcast in the shops a couple of months sooner to give them a longer lead on PlayStation 2.

After the disappointing performance of the Saturn in Europe, the success of Dreamcast could determine Sega's future as a console manufacturer. There will certainly be more games available at launch than was the case with the Saturn, and Sega have announced that 10 will be on sale in September. Sonic Adventure, Virtua Fighter 3tb and the promising driving game Metropolis (from Bizarre Creations who coded the first two F1 games on the PlayStation) are the most attractive launch titles. Sega have also confirmed that the Dreamcast will go on sale in the United States on September 9, retailing at $199.
