| Nintendo comes of age |
New ad campaign urges gamers to "feel everything"
German gamers got a bit of shock when they saw Nintendo's latest advertising campaign in their favourite magazines.
The new campaign, under the slogan "Feel Everything", shows a list of eight nouns (joy, dejection, fearlessness, euphoria, frustration, wantonness, fear, exuberance) with a wrapped 'XXXtra Large' condom at the top. The ad for 1080 Snowboarding had the word 'euphoria' highlighted, followed by "Only one of the feelings you will experience while playing 1080 Snowboarding".
Can this be true? Could Nintendo really be attempting to cast off their squeaky clean image? Just look at the way Sony's PlayStation is marketed - the target audience is clearly the 18 to 30-something male who drinks beer and dates girls. Games deserve a place in any young male's life, along with beer and porn.
But what about the female gamers? Maybe Nintendo should go all out and have a nude picture of Conan from Boyz R Us using a copy of Zelda to spare his blushes. Just a thought.
