Dear Future Gamer,

The PlayStation 2 looks like it will be the system to finally enable gamers to play their own truly interactive films, what with all this talk of the Emotion Engine and the Graphics Synthesiser, and what do Ubi Soft go ahead and announce? A platformer for God's sake! Not only that but a sequel of a PC game (Rayman 2)! To quote Robert De Niro, "What the fuck is the world coming to?!"

I hope Sony know what they are doing by allowing companies like Ubi Soft to develop ex-PC games for the next milestone of console technology. Remember, this was (is?) possibly the greatest flaw of the PS; way too many crap games alongside very few exceptional ones.

Maybe it's time for Sony to take a leaf out of Nintendo's book and vet the games that come out for their system even if it means there are less games released. Face it, most crap companies would be put off releasing the endless sequels to the sad platformers that they would otherwise not hesitate to rush out at the console's release. Your job would be made easier as you wouldn't have to review that shitty racing game that no-one should be forced to play; and we, the gaming public, would not have to endure so much talentless shite (the recent Bug's Life springs to mind) being shoved onto our plate ever again.

I hope the rumour about the Star Wars game being developed by Square for the PlayStation 2 does indeed come true and we see the two great events of the 20th century come together in time for the next millennium. But what I would love even more would be Sony finally having the best games along with the best system this time, and at the moment who can rightly say that there is a single game on the PS that can touch Zelda or four-player GoldenEye or Mario 64 or four-player F-Zero X? Yes, exactly, it doesn't exist.

FG, you are doing a tremendous job (almost Digi-quality), please keep it up; to everyone who watches the 11 o'clock show, PEACE AND RRRESPECT.

Jinn

FG: I must admit I'm inclined to agree with Jinn. As soon as I heard that RayMan 2 was going to be developed for PlayStation 2 my heart sank. Not because the game's totally rubbish but because it's a bloody sequel! I sincerely hope we're not going to be inundated with the same old games in new clothes when these new super machines arrive. Please somebody, let's have some innovation back in games.
