Satisfying gameplay?
We've played around with an early version and it certainly seems to be up to the job. Getting used to the keys can be tricky though because your 'Mech has a lot of functions and getting it to do the right thing at the right time in the heat of battle can be hard work. This will ease with practice though.
Any neat little tricks?
There are a few, the biggest possibly being the fact that after a battle you scavenge ammo and body parts from the defeated enemy 'Mechs and then tinker around with your own 'Mech to add upgrades and the like.
Sounds neat.
It is, and so's being able to issue orders to other 'Mechs and get them to do some of the dirty work for you. It's nice being able to group weapons together as well so you can fire off missiles and lasers (or whatever) with a single trigger squeeze. Bear in mind that overheating bit I mentioned earlier though.
I'm going to need all kinds of graphics accelerators aren't I?
It certainly looks lovely running on a 3dfx card, but MicroProse are also very keen to point out that the game runs at speed on a P166 in software mode too. We haven't tried that ourselves, but if the programmers say it then it must be true, eh?
'Mech my day.
You trying to be funny?
*Stomp around the landscape in a huge robot
*And loose off all manner of weaponry at other huge robots
*Customise your 'Mech with bits from other 'Mechs
*There's even a storyline in single-player mode
*You'll need quick keyboard skills to save you from a hiding
