Martin Edmondson, Reflections
|
Martin is managing director of Reflections but is mainly responsible for game concepts, design, and tweaking. He set up the company in 1984 to write games for the BBC (remember RavenSkull?), had 16bit hits with Ballistix, AWESOME, and Shadow of the Beast, and then hit the big time with Destruction Derby on PlayStation. He is currently putting the finishing touches to Driver...
Neil West
Played any good games lately?
ME: Not for about six months when the silly hours started to get Driver finished.
What do you think of Lara Croft?
ME: Her eyes are too big. And too far apart. And her waist is too thin. And her hair looks like it needs a damn good wash.
What name or initials do you enter on high-score tables?
ME: ME.
What games systems do you have at home?
ME: None - I don't want to see one when I go home. My mates think it's very amusing to boot up a PlayStation game on a Friday night after the pub. That chime sets my teeth on edge - I start thinking is it going to boot? Is it going to boot? Like I'm waiting for the latest burn of Driver.
If you had to have just one, which would it be?
ME: If I had to have one it would be an N64 just because it's so different to the PlayStation and doesn't make that chime sound on power up.
What's your favourite bit in Super Mario 64?
ME: It's old hat now but it was when he became chrome reflective. The cannons were pretty good too.
Who'd win in a fight, Sonic or Mario?
ME: Mario, easily. Not really a fair fight though, he has a 12 inch steel spanner in his toolbox. Best thing Sonic could manage is to whack him over the head with that fluffy Tails thing.
Were games better in the "good old days"?
ME: No - we were all just so excited about this newfangled modern computer game business. It must have been much easier to impress in the "good old days". I remember being excited about smooth scrolling and particle explosions 'when I were a lad'. These days it takes a PlayStation 2 demo to widen my eyes.
Describe Dreamcast in five words.
ME: Needs more good games - fast!
