With Infogrames buying up just about anything that moves, Computer Trade Weekly reports that Acclaim are set to become a little more acquisitive in the coming months. Apparently they've got $100 million to spend (which is nice) after posting profits and they're ready to pick up the odd studio. There's much gnashing of teeth at retail with the news that LucasArts' PlayStation Star Wars: Episode One has been delayed until September. Does it bother you?
Eidos have secured the rights to publish Capcom's Resident Evil 3 in Europe according to CTW. How so? CTW reckons that Eidos have offered Capcom the rights to publish Tomb Raider 4 in Japan. You scratch my back and I'll kick you up the arse, eh? The deal will no doubt be a blow to the restructured Virgin who published the first two incarnations in Europe. Ah well...
"There's no violence and killing in our games," a spokesperson told CTW last week. Who on earth could have come out with something like that? A spokesperson for Lego Media, obviously. Yes, Lego is set for a console debut (nothing can beat those nobbly bricks, though) and Lego Racers for N64 and PlayStation is first in line. It looks like Mario Kart. Others due include Lego Rock Raiders (no, we don't know either), Lego Friends and Lego Land. Don't, ahem, brick yourselves.
Front page news in 'The Industry's Biggest Circulation Trade Title' MCV concerns Nintendo distributors THE Games' quest to handle the Japanese giants' next console launch in the UK. Their contract with Nintendo is up for renewal next year, but they're confident that Project Dolphin will be their very own. "Nintendo are very pleased with what we have done with the N64 console," THE Games managing director Dick Francis (former jockey and novelist! Not) told MCV. "I don't think we could have done our job any better."
