What a great idea! That gives the designers the freedom to create all manner of surreal dreamscapes.
Indeed it does. Unfortunately there are no tangerine trees or marmalade skies to be found here, which is a bit of a shame. The levels do look big and varied, although when it comes to really letting the imagination go wild it seems like an opportunity missed.

So what are the levels like?
(Deep breath). There's Castle (filled with skeletons, spiders, dragons, ghosts, etc.), Space (aliens, robots, moon mice (?) etc.), Pirate (parrots, crabs and... you guessed it... pirates), Underwater (fish, sharks, octopuses etc.), Nightmare (Dracula, zombies and Frankenstein's monster) and Prehistoric (T. Rex, giant wasps, triceratops, etc.). At the end of each level you'll have to defeat Thread-Bear, NiteKap's hapless teddy bear sidekick.

Sounds alright. Anything else of particular note?
During any given level, you'll stumble across the occasional jack-in-the-box. If you jump inside it you'll get changed into one of four character outfits - robot, superhero, monster or ninja. Each outfit will grant the wearer special powers for a limited time and will be essential to completing the level.

Not bad! Ninjas are great! Is that it?
Not quite. At certain points in the game you get to take part in a race, just like in Mario 64. These bits work really well and differ from Mario in that you have full 3D control - you can fly up and down as well as forward and back. You know, like in Starfox.

Cool as!
Let's just hope it also appeals to the more mature gamer.

*Large levels with plenty of variety
*Some interesting bosses and sub-games
*You get to be a ninja!
*Has a definite 'for the kids' feel
*May 'borrow' slightly too much from Mario 64
